330 million users will use 5G in India in the next 5 years, data will be used faster

Telecom major Ericsson said in a report released on Wednesday that India is expected to have 330 million 5G subscribers by 2026 and monthly data consumption per smartphone could triple to 40 gigabytes during this period. According to the Ericsson Mobility Report 2021, India ranks second in the world in terms of average data consumption per smartphone with 14.6 GB per month.

The report said, “The number of 4G customers in India is estimated to increase from 68 crore in 2020 to 83 crore in 2026. Similarly, by the end of 2026, 5G will account for about 26 percent of India’s total mobile subscribers. Nitin Bansal, head of Ericsson India, said that the company found in a survey in India that 42 percent of users living in India’s big cities. Those who use 4G as a home internet connection are interested in using a 5G fixed wireless connection.

He said that 50 percent of consumers in India are ready to pay up to 50 percent more for 5G, provided they get multiple digital services at once. Four crore users said that they can take it only before the arrival of 5G service.

The company has said that in view of the fast pace of new experiments, it is optimistic about the future.

Ericsson CEO Borje Ekholm says that according to an estimate, by the end of this year, the number of 5G users globally will exceed 500 million. He said that the data consumption of 5G customers is two-three times more than that of 4G users.
